Can an old i7 CPU still handle modern games?

Should you upgrade?

This was my first official video for YouTube channel. What better way to start then to do what I like the most, tech? In this video I set out to see if an older system could handle modern games.

The short answer is yes, it can. I setup some basic test comparing it against an i5 CPU I had at the time. Not an apples to apple comparison but still relevant. At the resolution I was testing which was 1920×1200 there is a good mix of CPU and GPU workload but most of it is done by the GPU.

In the end if you need to upgrade it’s either because the CPU doesn’t handle the workloads you need or you need other features your motherboard doesn’t provide. If you would like to see the benchmarks take a look at the video.
